Who needs NABH consultancy
NABH looks at a hospital as a whole, so preparing for it touches every department, clinical and non-clinical, not only the quality team. These are the organisations that come to us.
Small healthcare organisations
Nursing homes and hospitals of up to 50 beds, which can apply for NABH entry-level certification as a first step.
Hospitals of 51 beds and above
Single and multi-specialty hospitals preparing for entry-level certification or full accreditation across all their departments.
Hospitals moving up to full accreditation
Hospitals that started with entry-level certification and are ready to meet the complete NABH hospital standards.
Hospitals with their own laboratory
NABH and NABL are assessed and granted separately. If your laboratory also needs NABL, we look at both and recommend where to start.
Accredited hospitals facing a visit
Hospitals with a surveillance visit or reaccreditation coming up that want their departments checked before the assessors arrive.
What our NABH consultancy covers
Implementation support built around the NABH standards and every department of your hospital: the same method we use for laboratories, from gap analysis to surveillance visits.

Gap analysis against the NABH standards
Our experts review your departments' systems, documents and records, and give you a prioritised action plan.
Policies and SOPs
We write the policies and SOPs your departments need, and hand them over digitally, ready to use.
Committees and quality indicators
We set up your hospital's committees and quality indicators, with the records to show they work.
Hands-on staff training
Your teams trained on the NABH standards and what assessors will ask them.
Self-assessment and application
We complete NABH's self-assessment and application with you.
Mock assessment and after
A mock assessment before NABH's, a dedicated Quality Manager beside you on the day, help with corrective actions and support for surveillance visits.
Documentation and quality management
NABH assessors follow patients through the hospital and check that what staff do matches the hospital's own policies, with records to show it. We write those documents with each department, then help you keep the system running between assessments.
Documents and records we prepare with you
- Hospital-wide policies, department manuals and SOPs
- Clinical procedures for registration, admission, assessment, emergency care, transfer and discharge
- Medication management procedures, including high-risk and look-alike, sound-alike medicines
- An infection control manual, hand hygiene audits and biomedical waste records
- Committee terms of reference and minutes, such as the quality, infection control, and pharmacy and therapeutics committees
- Quality indicator definitions, data collection formats and monthly analysis
- Incident reports, root cause analyses and corrective and preventive actions
- Staff files with credentialing and privileging, training and competence records
- A register of statutory licences and their renewal dates
Making the system work day to day
- Quality indicators collected and reviewed every month, not filled in before the assessment
- Committees that meet on schedule, with minutes and actions followed up
- Regular audits, such as medical records, hand hygiene and facility safety audits
- Training across departments and shifts, so night staff can answer assessors too
- An incident reporting system that staff actually use, with the lessons shared back
- Fire and emergency drills carried out and recorded
Entry-level certification or full accreditation
NABH offers two levels. Entry-level certification is the first step towards accreditation; full accreditation covers the complete NABH hospital accreditation standards. In your free consultation we recommend the level your hospital can reach first.
Entry-level certification
Under NABH's Entry-Level Certification Programme (2nd Edition), open to small healthcare organisations of up to 50 beds and to hospitals of 51 beds and above. Applied for online through NABH's HOPE portal.
Full accreditation
Every department meets the full NABH hospital accreditation standards, with records to show it. Applied for online with NABH's self-assessment toolkit and supporting documents.
The NABH hospital standards
NABH's hospital accreditation standards are arranged in ten chapters: five centred on the patient and five on the organisation. Each chapter is made up of standards, and each standard of objective elements, the specific points assessors check. We work through every chapter with the departments it touches.
Patient-centred chapters
- AACAccess, Assessment and Continuity of Care
- Registration, admission, assessment, referral, transfer and discharge.
- COPCare of Patients
- Uniform clinical care, including emergency, intensive, surgical and anaesthesia care.
- MOMManagement of Medication
- Procurement, storage, prescribing, dispensing and administration of medicines.
- PREPatient Rights and Education
- Consent, privacy, dignity and information for patients and families.
- IPCInfection Prevention and Control
- Hand hygiene, sterilisation, biomedical waste and surveillance of infections.
Organisation-centred chapters
- PSQPatient Safety and Quality Improvement
- Quality indicators, incident reporting and continual improvement.
- ROMResponsibilities of Management
- Governance, leadership and statutory compliance.
- FMSFacility Management and Safety
- Buildings, equipment, utilities, fire safety and emergency preparedness.
- HRMHuman Resource Management
- Recruitment, induction, training, credentialing and privileging, and staff health.
- IMSInformation Management System
- Medical records, confidentiality and information systems.
Entry-level certification has its own, shorter set of standards; full accreditation applies the complete hospital standards. Read our guide to the NABH chapters.

Common challenges in NABH preparation
Hospitals tend to struggle in the same places. We plan for them from the gap analysis onwards.
Every department at once
NABH covers clinical, support and administrative departments alike, and the work stalls when it rests on one quality coordinator.
We work department by department with the staff who run each one, so the work is shared and nothing is left to the last month.
Quality indicators with gaps
Indicators are defined but collected irregularly, or calculated differently from one month to the next.
We set up your quality indicators with clear definitions and formats, and the records to show they work.
Policies staff haven't read
Assessors ask nurses, doctors and support staff what they would do. A policy file nobody knows about counts for little.
Hands-on training for your teams on the NABH standards and the questions assessors ask.
Infection control on every shift
Hand hygiene, sterilisation and biomedical waste segregation are easy to write down and hard to keep up around the clock.
We build infection control into staff training and audits, and check it in the mock assessment.
Licences and facility safety
Expired licences, missing fire safety records or incomplete equipment maintenance can hold up an assessment, however good the clinical care.
The gap analysis checks licences and facility records early, so renewals can be started in time.
Committees that exist only on paper
Committees are formed for the application but don't meet, or meet without minutes and follow-up.
We set up your committees with you, with terms of reference and minutes that show they work.
NABH consultancy: common questions
How much does NABH consultancy cost?
It depends on the size of your hospital and the level you apply for. After your free consultation, we share the full price up front, with internal audits included at no extra cost.
Should we apply for entry-level certification or full accreditation?
Entry-level certification is NABH's first step towards accreditation; full accreditation covers the complete NABH standards. In your free consultation we recommend the level your hospital can reach first.
Who can apply for NABH entry-level certification?
Under NABH's Entry-Level Certification Programme (2nd Edition), both small healthcare organisations of up to 50 beds and hospitals of 51 beds and above can apply, online through NABH's HOPE portal.
Is Qualityveda an NABH-approved consultant?
NABH does not empanel or approve any consultants: it assesses hospitals itself and grants certification or accreditation. We prepare your hospital and your teams for NABH's assessment and support you through it.
How long does NABH preparation take?
It depends on the size of your hospital, how many departments it has, how much is already in place and the level you apply for. After the gap analysis, your free roadmap sets out the timeline for your hospital.
What are the NABH chapters?
NABH's hospital standards are arranged in ten chapters. Five are patient-centred: AAC, COP, MOM, PRE and IPC. Five are organisation-centred: PSQ, ROM, FMS, HRM and IMS. Each chapter is made up of standards and objective elements that assessors check.
Do you write our hospital's policies and SOPs?
Yes. We write the policies and SOPs your departments need, go through them with the staff who will use them, and hand every document over digitally, ready to use.
Does our hospital laboratory need NABL as well as NABH?
They are separate. NABH looks at the hospital as a whole; NABL looks at the laboratory's testing against ISO 15189:2022, and each is assessed and granted on its own. In your free consultation we look at your hospital and its laboratory and recommend where to start.
Do you work on-site or remotely?
Both. Our experts visit your lab or hospital for key stages such as the gap analysis and the internal audit, and support you remotely in between. Training runs as live online sessions.
What happens if the assessor finds non-conformities?
We help you write the corrective actions, gather the evidence and close every non-conformity, so nothing holds up your accreditation.
Can you help us stay accredited?
Yes. We prepare you for every surveillance visit and for reaccreditation, so your hospital stays accredited year after year.
Which states do you work in?
We work with labs and hospitals in 16+ states across India, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Goa.
